Route to Reading-Third Grade
This week third grade students reviewed vowel sounds and learned about magic e (silent e). We looked for patterns in words by pointing to the vowel by using a v sign with our index and middle finger. Next we read a story titled Sam and Kate. Students highlighted words with the silent e pattern (vce), read the words and then practiced the story for fluency.
Route to Reading-First Grade
First Grade students are working on identifying initial sounds in words. We learned the national sign language signs for same and different. Ask your child to show the signs!
Route to Reading-Kindergarten
This week we learned about concepts and terms like first and last, same and different, and directionality (moving our finger from left to right). We had a blast making silly sentences, reading them to our friends, illustrating them and finally counting the words.
2nd Grade Double Dose Reading
This week 2nd grade students reviewed short vowel sounds /o/ and /a/ . We tasted olives (/o/), read a poem about popcorn, practiced sound blending, and wrote letters in purple sand.
5th Grade Double Dose
This week 5th graders experienced two new reading computer programs, Read Naturally and Lexia. Check your child's yellow folder for directions on how to download the Lexia program at home for free!
