2nd Grade Double Dose Reading
After reading, Hey Little Ant, students wrote about what they thought the boy should do. Should he squish the ant or not? What would you do?
5th Grade Double Dose Reading
This week we worked on making inferences. Making inferences allow us to draw our own conclusions based on the evidence in the story. We are becoming reading detectives!
Route to Reading-Third Grade
This week we explored more cvce (consonant vowel consonant e) words adding o, e, and u to our memory bank. Ask your child to tell you about "magic" e. Our new story is Skull Cave.
Route to Reading-First Grade
Students expressed their artistic side this week by creating four pictures. Three of the pictures had the same sound and one had a different sound. Then they challenged their peers to determine the picture that did not belong.
cherry, chair, chocolate, watermelon
Which picture begins with a different sound?
Route to Reading-Kindergarten
Kindergarten's favorite activity this week was using witch fingers to point to each word in a sentence. We also previewed the next skill syllables. Students enjoyed hopping through the hallway on our homemade hopscotch board.

Route to Reading-Third Grade
This week third grade students reviewed vowel sounds and learned about magic e (silent e). We looked for patterns in words by pointing to the vowel by using a v sign with our index and middle finger. Next we read a story titled Sam and Kate. Students highlighted words with the silent e pattern (vce), read the words and then practiced the story for fluency.
Route to Reading-First Grade
First Grade students are working on identifying initial sounds in words. We learned the national sign language signs for same and different. Ask your child to show the signs!
Route to Reading-Kindergarten
This week we learned about concepts and terms like first and last, same and different, and directionality (moving our finger from left to right). We had a blast making silly sentences, reading them to our friends, illustrating them and finally counting the words.
2nd Grade Double Dose Reading
This week 2nd grade students reviewed short vowel sounds /o/ and /a/ . We tasted olives (/o/), read a poem about popcorn, practiced sound blending, and wrote letters in purple sand.
5th Grade Double Dose
This week 5th graders experienced two new reading computer programs, Read Naturally and Lexia. Check your child's yellow folder for directions on how to download the Lexia program at home for free!
